This photo was taken at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco October 2013. Hardly Strictly (as it is known to many) began in 2000 as a small, single stage free concert in Golden Gate Park that was 100% funded by a billionaire philanthropist named Warren Hellman. This was Warren’s gift to the city he loved. Today Hardly Strictly draws close to 750,000 over the 3 day early October Festival with 6 stages and almost 100 artists performing. Still 100% free, with no sponsorship the festival continues 4 years after the passing Warren Hellman and has become a destination weekend in San Francisco from music fans around the world. Emmylou Harris was Warrens favorite and she has closed the main stage (Banjo Stage) every year of this festival. I have been shooting the festival for every year except the inaugural year. This photo shows the final seconds of her 2013 performance with the fall sunset lighting up the San Francisco sky. A Magical moment captured in a split second!
